Scientists Uncover Unique Features of Ancient ‘Punk Rocker’ Dinosaur

Researchers have identified a fascinating new aspect of the Spicomellus, an ancient dinosaur believed to have existed around 165 million years ago. Co-lead researcher Professor Susannah Maidment, affiliated with the Natural History Museum, London, noted that the “absolutely bizarre” fossils challenge existing perceptions of how these armoured dinosaurs developed. Initially uncertain about its classification as an ankylosaur, further analysis has confirmed this identification, revealing that Africa’s sole known ankylosaur is even more extraordinary than previously thought.
