Tributes are pouring in for Laura Buckley Noonan, a cherished mother of three and former member of the Irish Defence Forces, who passed away unexpectedly on September 4, 2023. The Cork native, who resided on Youghal Road in Midleton, was surrounded by her family at Cork University Hospital at the time of her death.

Her family expressed their profound sorrow in an online death notice, stating, “It is with extreme sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Laura Buckley Noonan, formerly of The Military Police, Irish Defence Forces.” She is survived by her husband Gerry Noonan and her three children, Abbie, Molly, and Ben, along with her parents, Catherine and the late Billy, and her sister Nicola and partner Jason.

Remembering a Dedicated Soldier and Loving Mother

The family highlighted Laura’s extensive connections, noting, “Laura will be forever missed also by her aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, mother-in-law Breeda and father-in-law Jerry, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, wider family, neighbours, members of the Defence Forces, and many friends.” They extended gratitude to first responders, including the Cork Air Ambulance crew, her neighbours, and the “exceptional staff” at the hospital for their care and support during this difficult time.

Laura’s remains will repose at her home on September 6 from 15:00 to 18:00, with a requiem mass scheduled for 11:00 on September 11 at the Church of the Most Holy Rosary in Midleton, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Having served in the Military Police and the 4th Infantry Battalion based at Collins Barracks, Laura was highly regarded by her colleagues. A member of the RQMS Military Police Corps shared, “Our deepest sympathies to Gerry, Abbie, Molly, Ben, and all the Buckley and Noonan families. Having worked alongside Laura for so many years, I will always remember her friendship and dedication.”

A Legacy of Kindness and Dedication

Former colleagues described her as “an outstanding soldier” who was “proud to serve her country.” One soldier offered, “It is only in recent weeks that I came to work with Laura, a truly loveable person with a future so bright.” The sentiments of love she held for her family were evident as she often spoke of them fondly in conversations.

Another Defence Forces member recounted, “I had the honour of serving with Laura in Collins Barracks. She was kind, dedicated, and proud to serve her country. Our heartfelt condolences go to Gerry, Abbie, Molly, Ben, Catherine, Nicola, and the extended family. Gone too soon. May Laura rest in peace.”

Many expressed their shock at her sudden passing, reflecting on her gentle nature and the joy she brought to those around her. A former colleague remarked, “Laura was always in good form and greeted you with a smile. She was a gentle soul, and I can’t help but think that we are all better for having known her.”

Laura Buckley Noonan will be remembered not only as a dedicated soldier but also as a loving mother and friend. Her unexpected departure has left a void in the lives of many, but her legacy of kindness and service will endure.
