The Limerick senior hurling team is set to engage in an exciting schedule for the upcoming 2026 Allianz Hurling League, featuring three home matches and three away fixtures. The season will kick off on the weekend of January 24/25, with John Kiely‘s squad initially having a bye week.

The fixtures for the 2026 Division 1A National Hurling League were released by the Irish Examiner. These fixtures remain provisional, allowing counties the opportunity to request alterations as needed. Limerick will start their league campaign with an away match against Waterford on February 1. This matchup marks the beginning of a competitive season for the team.

Following their opener, Limerick will host Kilkenny at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on February 7/8. The team will then travel to FBD Semple Stadium in Thurles to face the reigning All-Ireland champions, Tipperary, on February 21/22. Limerick’s next game will be against Offaly at O’Connor Park in Tullamore on February 28/March 1.

The Shannonsiders will conclude their Division 1A league campaign with matches against Cork on March 7/8 and Galway on March 21 at their home venue on Ennis Road. The top two teams from Division 1A will clash in the National Hurling League final scheduled for April 4/5.

Before the Allianz Hurling League commences, Limerick will begin their Co-Op Superstores Munster Senior Hurling League campaign against Clare on January 3. They will then host Cork on January 7 at 19:00 in a venue yet to be confirmed.

Additionally, Limerick is preparing for a special challenge match against their rivals, Tipperary, to support the Dillon Quirke Foundation. This event will be part of the inaugural Champions Under Lights event at Fethard Town Park on December 13 at 18:00.

Changes within the Limerick senior hurling squad have been notable leading into the 2026 season. Former captain Declan Hannon has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling. Shane Dowling has also opted to step away from the squad, while Seamus Flanagan has not been included by John Kiely. Other players released from the panel include Jason Gillane, Micheál Houlihan, Fergal O’Connor, and Cian Scully.

As Limerick prepares for these fixtures, the team looks to build on its previous successes and engage fans with a thrilling display of hurling. The upcoming season promises to be both competitive and exciting for players and supporters alike.
