UPDATE: A tragic car accident in Tuam, Co Galway, has claimed the life of 19-year-old Samantha Gannon, who succumbed to her injuries early Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025. The collision occurred at approximately 6:05 PM on Ballygaddy Road during a two-vehicle crash.

Samantha was driving one of the vehicles involved and was immediately transported to University Hospital Galway (UHG) with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, she passed away just days later, prompting an outpouring of emotional tributes from friends and the community.

A heartbroken friend expressed, “A mortal sin had her whole life ahead of her only 19… many good memories in secondary school with her. Rest in peace, Samantha Gannon; may you get the best bed in heaven forever.” Another friend added, “Rip Samantha. I can’t believe it. The nicest girl.”

The second vehicle involved in the crash contained a male in his 20s and a female in her 30s, both of whom were treated for non-life-threatening injuries at UHG.

Authorities are actively investigating the incident and are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward. A spokesperson for the Garda stated, “Gardai continue to appeal for witnesses following the two-car collision that occurred at Ballygaddy Road. We ask anyone who was in the area between 5:50 PM and 6:15 PM to contact us.”
