Europe Faces Red Heat Warnings as Irish Tourists Prepare for Holidays

A series of red heat warnings are in effect across Europe as temperatures are expected to soar this weekend, particularly in destinations popular with Irish tourists. Regions including Spain and Croatia could experience highs reaching up to 40°C as the summer heat intensifies.
Weather expert Alan O’Reilly, known for his insights on the @CarlowWeather account on X, has alerted travelers to the significant weather warnings affecting several holiday hotspots. He noted, “A lot of weather warnings in Europe today and tomorrow Saturday including red warnings for heat in parts of Spain, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, and Poland.”
Northern Spain is anticipated to experience the most extreme conditions over the weekend, with central Europe also bracing for similar heat. The warnings highlight the need for caution among those planning to travel to these areas.
As European temperatures climb, Ireland is also enjoying a warm spell, with expected highs of up to 27°C on Saturday. While this is above the seasonal average, the Irish weather forecast indicates a chance of showers and thunderstorms. A spokesperson from Met Éireann reported that Friday would be largely dry and warm, with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 26°C in the midlands and southern regions.
The forecast for Saturday morning is promising, with sunny spells expected. However, as the day progresses, showers are likely to develop across Munster and Connacht, potentially becoming heavy or thundery in nature. The highest temperatures will remain between 21°C and 27°C, accompanied by moderate east to southeast winds.
Looking ahead to Saturday night, conditions are expected to be mild and humid, with early evening showers tapering off. Overnight temperatures are predicted to stay between 14°C and 17°C, with light to moderate breezes along the coast.
Sunday will commence with dry and mostly sunny weather, though scattered showers are anticipated to move in from the southwest around noon, affecting mainly Munster and Connacht during the afternoon and evening. The highest temperatures will range from 19°C to 25°C, under moderate southeast winds. By Sunday night, the showers should dissipate, leading to another mild and humid night with lows between 14°C and 17°C.
Travelers are urged to stay informed about weather updates as they head into a weekend that promises both heat and some potential for severe weather.
