Limerick’s St John’s Brass Band to Shine on RTE Nationwide Tonight

URGENT UPDATE: St John’s Brass and Reed Band will make a special appearance on RTÉ’s Nationwide tonight at 7 PM. The segment is part of a city-wide broadcast celebrating the kickoff of Heritage Week in Limerick, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the area.
The broadcast will also highlight King John’s Castle, Limerick’s leading tourist attraction, adding to the excitement of this evening’s program. This is a significant moment for the band, which was recently honored as Limerick Persons of the Month for their outstanding cultural contributions and enduring presence in the community since its founding in 1865.
St John’s Brass and Reed Band, based in Garryowen, has a proud history and continues to engage the community with its music. Earlier this year, they celebrated their anniversary with a free public event featuring a ceremonial march from the Band Hall on Garryowen Road to John’s Square.
The band, originally established as The Victuallers Band by Limerick’s butchers’ guild, remains one of Ireland’s oldest community bands. With 30 members aged between 17 and 70, the band reflects a diverse cultural background, showcasing Limerick’s vibrant community spirit. They rehearse weekly at the Redemptorist Centre of Music, which plays a crucial role in their ongoing development.
Tune in at 7 PM on RTE One to witness this remarkable celebration of Limerick’s musical heritage and the inspiring story of St John’s Brass and Reed Band. This is a must-watch event that promises to resonate with viewers and highlight the importance of community engagement through music. Don’t miss it!
