Emergency Crews Work to Restore Water Supply in Cork City
Uisce Éireann is actively working to restore water supply to homes and businesses in Cork City following a significant burst in a water main. Emergency service crews were deployed on the evening of March 3, 2024, to address the disruption affecting several neighborhoods, including Mayfield, Corrib Lawn, Ballinderry Park, and Lagan Grove, among others.
The repair efforts are focused on restoring service to the impacted areas as quickly as possible. Uisce Éireann anticipates that repairs will be completed by 13:00 on March 4. In the interim, residents will have access to alternative water supplies provided by bulk tankers. These tankers will be available from 19:00 this evening at the Dunnes Stores car park in Ballyvolane.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own containers when collecting water from the tankers. Additionally, Uisce Éireann advises that water should be boiled before consumption as a precautionary measure.
James Goulding, operations manager for Uisce Éireann in Cork City, acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outage. He stated, “We understand the inconvenience of this outage and we would like to assure customers that we are doing everything we can to restore the water supply as quickly as possible.”
As the water service is restored, customers may notice some temporary discolouration. In such cases, running the cold kitchen tap for several minutes should return the water to a clear state.
For ongoing updates, residents can visit water.ie. Uisce Éireann remains committed to resolving this issue promptly and appreciates the community’s understanding during this emergency.
