Young Entrepreneurs Showcase Skills at Kilkenny Christmas Markets
Students from various schools across Kilkenny will showcase their entrepreneurial talents at special Christmas Markets held at MacDonagh Junction on December 2, 4, 9, and 11, 2023. Organized by the Local Enterprise Office, these events will take place every Tuesday and Thursday starting at noon. This initiative provides students a platform not only to sell their products but also to gain firsthand experience in running a business.
The Christmas Markets will feature an array of products, ranging from handmade crafts to delicious treats. Students have been diligently working since September to develop their mini companies, preparing for this opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and skills to the local community.
Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Mary Hilda Cavanagh, expressed the importance of fostering future entrepreneurs. “Supporting the next generation of small business owners is essential for the growth and success of our community,” she said. Cavanagh also acknowledged the role of MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre in facilitating this initiative.
Aileen McGrath, Head of Enterprise at the Local Enterprise Office, highlighted the value of the Student Enterprise Programme. “It is a great opportunity for young people to learn about entrepreneurship and gain valuable real-world experience,” she noted. McGrath expressed pride in the participation of so many talented students, encouraging community members to visit the stalls and support these inspiring young entrepreneurs.
The Christmas Markets aim to create a vibrant atmosphere where students can interact with the public and apply their learning in a practical setting. This experience not only enhances their understanding of business operations but also helps to build confidence in their abilities.
