The Health Service Executive (HSE) Mid-West is hosting a free walk-in clinic in Limerick to provide the nasal spray flu vaccine for children aged two to 17 years. This initiative will take place on January 5, 2024, from 14:00 to 18:00 at the Dooradoyle Health Centre, located at V94 A6RX. This effort aims to protect children from influenza as they return to school after the holiday break.

Dr. Breda Cosgrove, a Consultant in Public Health Medicine with HSE Mid-West, emphasized the importance of vaccination. She described the nasal spray vaccine as a “quick, easy, pain-free spray up the nose” and encouraged parents to take advantage of this opportunity. “It’s important to be aware of the risks of flu, particularly for children, who can spread flu easily, and are returning to school this week,” Dr. Cosgrove stated.

The flu vaccine is essential not only for the health of the children but also serves to protect vulnerable family members, including grandparents, infants, and pregnant women. According to the HSE, this initiative is part of a comprehensive flu vaccination programme available for all age groups.

Parents are urged to bring their children to the clinic for vaccination, especially those who have not yet received the flu vaccine this season. The HSE aims to reduce the spread of influenza in the community and ensure that children are safeguarded as they interact with peers in school settings.

This walk-in clinic is one of several efforts by the HSE Mid-West to promote public health and prevent the seasonal flu, which can have serious consequences for certain populations. Vaccination not only protects individuals but also contributes to the overall health of the community.

For those seeking more information, the HSE encourages parents to visit their website or contact local health services. The flu vaccine is a vital tool in maintaining public health, particularly as schools resume and children gather in larger groups.
