Charities Invited to Join Munster National Sweepstake for €40,000

Local charities are invited to participate in a unique sweepstake associated with the Boyle Sports JT McNamara Munster National, set to take place on October 18 and 19, 2024, at Greenmount Park in Patrickswell, Limerick. This initiative, organized by the McManus family in collaboration with the National and Limerick Racecourse, aims to support charitable organizations in the Mid West region with a total potential benefit of up to €40,000.
Charities can enter the sweepstake through the official website, limerickraces.ie. Each participating charity will be matched with a horse running in the Munster National. The charity corresponding to the winning horse will receive a prize of €20,000, while additional significant prizes will also be awarded to other participants. As part of the initiative, Limerick Racecourse will contribute 1,500 general admission tickets to the shortlisted charities, enabling them to sell these tickets and raise further funds.
The 2025 winner of the sweepstake was Down Syndrome Limerick, which successfully nominated the winning horse. Commenting on the initiative, JP McManus, a prominent supporter of local charities, expressed his enthusiasm: “I am delighted that we have this opportunity through the sweepstake to support the very many charities and community organisations who do so much in our community. I am looking forward to what promises to be a very exciting and enjoyable meeting.”
The CEO of Limerick Racecourse, Michael Lynch, also shared his thoughts: “We are delighted to be continuing our associations with both the sponsor and the McManus family for the Munster National Weekend Festival and Charitable Sweepstake. It is an important part of our growing racing business and one we are keen to continuously develop and improve.” Lynch highlighted the significance of last year’s race, where local trainer Eric McNamara and jockey Danny Mullins created a memorable atmosphere with their victory aboard Real Steel.
This two-day National Hunt Meeting, featuring the prestigious €100,000 Munster National, is expected to draw significant attention and support from the community, further enhancing the relationship between local charities and the racing event. The sweepstake not only offers financial benefits but also fosters community engagement and support for essential causes.
