European Heatwaves Prompt Red Weather Warnings for Tourists

A series of red weather warnings have been issued for popular holiday destinations across Europe as soaring temperatures threaten to reach as high as 40°C this weekend. Areas such as Spain and Croatia are expected to experience extreme heat, prompting significant concern for tourists, particularly those traveling from Ireland.
Irish weather expert Alan O’Reilly, who operates the widely followed @CarlowWeather account on X, has advised travelers to remain vigilant regarding weather conditions. He noted, “A lot of weather warnings in Europe today and tomorrow Saturday including red warnings for heat in parts of Spain, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, and Poland.” Northern Spain is projected to experience the hottest conditions, with central European countries also facing a surge in temperatures over the weekend.
In contrast, Ireland is forecasted to enjoy milder weather, with temperatures reaching up to 27°C on Saturday. While this is above the seasonal average, there is a possibility of showers and thunderstorms. A spokesperson for Met Éireann stated, “Today will be largely dry and warm with good spells of sunshine,” adding that the highest temperatures will range from 20°C to 26°C.
Looking ahead to Saturday, the weather in Ireland will include sunny spells in the morning, followed by the likelihood of heavy or thundery showers in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures are expected to remain high, between 21°C and 27°C, accompanied by moderate east to southeast winds.
Saturday night will bring a mild and humid atmosphere, with early showers expected before the weather stabilizes overnight. Temperatures will not drop below 14°C to 17°C, maintaining a warm environment for the night.
On Sunday, the forecast indicates a dry start with mostly sunny conditions. Scattered showers will approach from the southwest around noon, predominantly affecting Munster and Connacht through the afternoon and evening. The highest temperatures are projected to range from 19°C to 25°C.
As Europe braces for this extreme weather, Irish tourists are encouraged to stay informed about local conditions and exercise caution while traveling in affected regions.
