Letterkenny Chamber Celebrates €9 Million in ShopLK Gift Card Sales
The Letterkenny Chamber has announced a significant achievement in 2025, with ShopLK gift card sales surpassing the €9 million mark. This milestone represents an increase of €2 million compared to the previous year, highlighting the growing popularity of these local vouchers.
Since their introduction 21 years ago, ShopLK gift cards have become a favored choice for both gift-givers and local businesses. According to Jimmy Stafford, President of the Letterkenny Chamber, this growth can be attributed to robust participation from retailers, with over 200 outlets now accepting the cards. The vouchers not only serve personal gifting needs, such as birthdays and Christmas, but they have also gained traction in corporate gifting, thanks to the €1,500 tax-free benefit scheme.
Economic Impact and Community Engagement
The economic implications of the ShopLK voucher scheme are substantial. Research indicates that every €1 spent using a ShopLK voucher generates approximately €4 in overall spending within the community. This means that the vouchers could potentially inject around €36 million into the local economy. Stafford elaborated, explaining that a customer using a €20 voucher often spends an additional €60 to €80, further benefiting local retailers.
“People use the vouchers for various purposes, whether it’s topping up their oil tank, enjoying a coffee, or doing everyday shopping,” Stafford noted. He emphasized the critical role of local spending in sustaining jobs and creating part-time opportunities for young people during peak seasons.
Moreover, the success of the ShopLK initiative has positioned Letterkenny as a model for other chambers nationwide. As the program continues to evolve, it highlights the importance of community engagement and local support.
Tribute to Ann Louise McClintock and Chamber Growth
In addition to the voucher success, the Letterkenny Chamber also acknowledged the contributions of Ann Louise McClintock, who is departing after eight years with the organization. McClintock played a vital role in managing the Community Employment (CE) scheme and significantly contributed to the success of the ShopLK program. Stafford praised her efforts, stating, “Ann-Louise has been the bedrock of ShopLK and has played a huge part in building it into what it is today.”
As McClintock transitions to a new role with The No Barriers Foundation, the Chamber’s staff and members expressed their best wishes for her future endeavors.
The year 2025 has been marked by remarkable growth for the Letterkenny Chamber, which now boasts 336 members. Over 1,300 attendees participated in 18 Chamber events throughout the year. Stafford noted that the vibrant community of business professionals is leveraging the Chamber for networking and growth opportunities.
A standout moment for the Chamber was the celebration of its 60th anniversary at the Castlegrove Country House Hotel, where past presidents and community representatives gathered to honor this significant milestone. “The momentum we have built reflects our increased membership, with a new member joining every week of 2025,” Stafford remarked.
As the festive season approaches, Stafford encourages everyone to embrace the spirit of local shopping and support the ShopLK initiative. “I want to wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas,” he concluded, reinforcing the importance of community support.
