A variety of red weather warnings have been issued for several popular holiday destinations in Europe as extreme heat is expected to affect areas frequented by Irish tourists. Over the weekend, temperatures could reach highs of up to 40°C in regions such as Spain and Croatia, prompting officials to alert travelers about potential health risks.

Irish weather specialist Alan O’Reilly, known for his insights on the @CarlowWeather account on X, has urged travelers to remain vigilant. He highlighted the severity of the weather conditions, noting, “A lot of weather warnings in Europe today and tomorrow, including red warnings for heat in parts of Spain, Germany, Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, and Poland.” Northern Spain is expected to experience the most intense heat, while central Europe will also see significant temperature increases over the weekend.

As this extreme weather event unfolds in Europe, conditions in Ireland will remain relatively mild, with temperatures reaching 27°C on Saturday. Although this is above average for this time of year, there remains a risk of showers and thunderstorms. A spokesperson for Met Éireann provided a forecast for the weekend, stating, “Today will be largely dry and warm with good spells of sunshine,” with maximum temperatures ranging from 20°C to 26°C and light northeast breezes.

Looking ahead to Saturday night, the weather will be mild and humid, with temperatures expected to hover between 14°C and 17°C. The night will begin with some showers, but it is expected to become mainly dry. On Sunday, the day will start off dry and mostly sunny, although scattered showers are likely to arrive from the southwest around noon, particularly affecting regions in Munster and Connacht.

As travelers prepare for their holidays, it is essential for them to stay informed about weather conditions. With ongoing heat warnings in several European countries, awareness can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for those venturing abroad.
