A woman from Westmeath celebrated her 50th birthday with an unexpected surprise after discovering she had won a staggering €300,000 from a scratch card gifted by her husband. The scratch card, valued at €15, was included in her birthday card and turned out to be a life-changing present.

The winning scratch card was purchased at Spollen’s Centra in Glasson, Co Westmeath. The winner recounted her initial disbelief, stating, “Can you believe I almost threw the scratch card in the bin? I glanced over the numbers at first and didn’t immediately spot the €300,000 staring back at me.” She initially thought her prize was €30,000, which she believed for about an hour before realizing the actual amount.

Since revealing her win, the woman has kept the scratch card close, taking it with her everywhere. “I couldn’t stand the thought of having it out of my sight. It’s come to work with me, to the shops – everywhere!” she said, expressing her excitement and plans for the future. She dreams of buying a home by the sea and embarking on a year-long cruise around the world.

Store owner Joe Spollen expressed his joy at having sold the winning ticket, stating, “This is certainly news that will put a smile on people’s faces! We are a family-run store here in Glasson and have been in business for 48 years. Hearing stories like this is what we love.” He also noted that they previously sold a Telly Bingo ticket worth €45,005 and a Lotto Plus ticket valued at €350,000.
