Seventeen Childcare Providers Face Closure After Registration Miss
Seventeen childcare providers in Ireland may not reopen tomorrow due to missed registration deadlines. The Child and Family Agency Tusla announced that these providers failed to complete their renewals before the crucial deadline of December 31, 2025. As a result, families relying on these services may face disruptions beginning after the Christmas break.
Tusla emphasized that it had communicated the registration requirements consistently throughout the previous year. All Early Years providers were informed that their registration to provide services must be renewed annually to ensure continuity. Despite this, 17 services have incomplete renewals, some of which are reportedly in the process of updating their registration.
The agency acknowledged the potential impact of these closures on parents and families. To mitigate the effects, Tusla has deployed staff over the weekend to assist providers with the registration process, aiming for the services to operate as scheduled on Monday. While Tusla did not disclose the names of the unregistered providers, a spokesperson expressed optimism that “most of the providers will engage with the registration team and their registration will be complete before Monday, avoiding service disruption.”
To expedite the registration process, Tusla has established a helpline specifically for providers. This initiative aims to facilitate quick resolution of any outstanding issues related to registration.
Despite the challenges faced by some providers, the overall registration rate among Early Years providers in Ireland remains high. Approximately 98.8%, or 3,278 providers, successfully registered before the deadline, ensuring that the majority of childcare services will continue uninterrupted.
As the situation develops, many parents are left anxious about the availability of childcare services in their communities. The efforts by Tusla to assist those in need of registration may play a pivotal role in ensuring that families can rely on consistent childcare as the new year begins.
