In a statement, her family expressed their profound sorrow: “It is with extreme sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Laura Buckley Noonan, formerly of The Military Police, Irish Defence Forces.” The family highlighted her roles as a beloved wife to Gerry Noonan and a devoted mother to their three children, Abbie, Molly, and Ben. Additionally, she was cherished by her mother, Catherine, her late father, Billy, and her sister, Nicola, along with many relatives, friends, and colleagues.

Laura’s family extended their gratitude to the first responders, the Cork Air Ambulance Crew, and the dedicated staff at the hospital for their care and support during this difficult time.

Remembering a Dedicated Soldier

Laura served in the Military Police and was also a member of the 4th Infantry Battalion, based at Collins Barracks in Cork. Her former colleagues have described her as an “outstanding soldier” who was “proud to serve her country.” An emotional tribute from a member of the RQMS Military Police Corps conveyed deep sympathy to Laura’s family, stating, “Having worked alongside Laura for so many years, I will always remember her friendship and dedication.”

Colleagues emphasized her kindness and professionalism, recalling her as a deeply caring individual who always took the time to support others. One fellow soldier reflected on their recent interactions, saying, “Laura was a truly loveable person with a future so bright. She spoke fondly of her family and expressed such love for them.”

Another service member echoed the sentiment, stating, “I had the honour of serving with Laura in Collins Barracks. She was kind, dedicated, and proud to serve her country. Our heartfelt condolences go to Gerry, Abbie, Molly, Ben, Catherine, Nicola, and the extended family. Gone too soon. May Laura rest in peace.”

Final Farewell and Community Support

Laura’s passing has left a profound impact on all who knew her. A close friend described her as “one of the good & rare ones,” highlighting the genuine nature of her character. The friend reminisced about treasured conversations and expressed disbelief at her sudden departure, saying, “There are just no words and it doesn’t feel real. Laura was a beautiful person.”

Laura will lie in repose at her home on Youghal Road from 15:00 to 18:00 on Sunday. Her funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 on Monday at the Church of the Most Holy Rosary in Midleton, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
