Zelenskyy Announces New Operations Against Russian Forces
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has declared that Ukraine is intensifying its military operations against Russia in response to a series of recent attacks that have crippled power supply in several Ukrainian cities. In his address on Saturday evening, Zelenskyy stated, “Some of the operations have already been felt by the Russians. Some are still underway. I also approved new ones.” He emphasized that these efforts aim to undermine Russia’s ability to sustain its ongoing military campaign.
Zelenskyy elaborated on the nature of Ukraine’s military actions, which include deep strikes and specialized measures designed to weaken Russian military capabilities. “We are actively defending ourselves, and every Russian loss brings the end of the war closer,” he asserted. While he refrained from disclosing specific operational details, citing it was “too early” for public discussion, he underscored the effectiveness of Ukraine’s security services and special forces.
In a notable operation, Ukrainian forces targeted the Zhutovskaya oil depot in Russia’s Volgograd region overnight on Saturday. This strike is part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to diminish Russia’s offensive capabilities. The General Staff of Ukraine confirmed the attack through a post on social media, indicating a calculated approach to countering Russian aggression.
Zelenskyy’s remarks come on the heels of a week marked by escalating Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. These attacks have left regions such as Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk without electricity and heating, as temperatures have plummeted to well below zero. In the capital city of Kyiv, renewed assaults have resulted in at least four fatalities and injured 25 others. The city’s mayor has urged residents who are able to leave to do so, as approximately half of Kyiv’s apartment buildings remain without power or heat.
Moreover, on Thursday, Russian forces launched a nuclear-capable Oreshnik ballistic missile at Ukraine’s Lviv region, striking perilously close to the borders of the EU and NATO. This attack is part of a broader campaign of bombardment that has raised concerns over regional stability and civilian safety.
As the situation continues to evolve, Ukraine remains resolute in its efforts to protect its sovereignty and restore essential services to its citizens. Zelenskyy’s commitment to increasing operational pressure on Russia underscores the ongoing conflict’s complexity and the urgent need for international attention and support.
