Stripe Launches Sponsorship of Young Scientist Exhibition in Dublin
The Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (YSTE) commenced on January 11, 2023, at the RDS in Dublin, marking a significant milestone as it is the first year for Stripe, an Irish-American financial technology company, as a sponsor. Founded by brothers John and Patrick Collison, who hail from Tipperary, the sponsorship reflects a deep personal connection to the revered annual event.
The exhibition, which showcases innovative projects from young scientists and technologists, has a long-standing reputation for inspiring creativity and ingenuity among students across Ireland. This year, the participation of Stripe not only brings financial support but also adds a layer of mentorship and engagement from former winners of the competition, further enriching the experience.
John Collison, co-founder of Stripe, expressed his enthusiasm about the sponsorship, stating, “We’ve come full circle.” His comment highlights the journey from being a participant in the exhibition to now supporting the next generation of innovators. This connection resonates with many attendees, particularly the young participants who aspire to follow in the footsteps of previous winners.
The Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition serves as a platform for students aged 12 to 19 to present their projects to a panel of judges and the public. Participants are encouraged to explore scientific questions and technological advancements, fostering a spirit of inquiry and innovation that aligns with Stripe’s mission of empowering young minds.
This year’s event features over 500 projects from students across the country, showcasing a diverse array of topics, including environmental science, technology, and health. The exhibition provides an opportunity for students to develop critical thinking skills while receiving feedback from industry professionals and academics.
As Stripe takes on the role of a sponsor, the company aims to inspire a new generation of innovators by providing resources and opportunities for participants to connect with leaders in the field. The sponsorship aligns with Stripe’s commitment to supporting education and fostering talent in technology and science.
The impact of such initiatives extends beyond immediate financial assistance. By involving former winners as mentors and sponsors, the exhibition creates a community where young scientists can thrive, benefiting from the experiences and insights of those who have successfully navigated similar paths.
The excitement surrounding the 2023 YSTE is palpable as students prepare to showcase their hard work and creativity. With Stripe’s involvement, this year’s event promises to be not only a celebration of young scientific talent but also a pivotal moment in the ongoing journey of cultivating innovation in Ireland.
