Mohamed Salah Critiques Jamie Carragher Amid Liverpool Uncertainty
Mohamed Salah has expressed frustration towards Liverpool FC and former player Jamie Carragher, raising questions about his future at Anfield. Following Liverpool’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Leeds United on March 30, 2024, Salah claimed he feels “thrown under the bus” by the club and revealed a lack of communication with manager Arne Slot. The forward has not played in the starting lineup for three consecutive matches, remaining an unused substitute during Saturday’s encounter.
In a candid interview, Salah addressed various topics, including the speculation surrounding interest from the Saudi Pro League. He stated, “In football you never know. I don’t accept this situation. I have done so much for this club. I don’t want to answer this question [about Saudi], because the club is going to take me to a different direction.” His comments reflect a deep sense of disappointment regarding his current status within the team.
Salah’s remarks also included a pointed reference to Jamie Carragher, who recently criticized him for not stepping up as a leader. After Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Carragher suggested that Salah only speaks out when he is seeking a new contract or after receiving personal accolades. “A year ago this weekend, Mo Salah wasn’t shy in speaking about his own situation and the club not offering him a contract,” Carragher stated during Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football. He emphasized that Liverpool needs more players to take responsibility, particularly in light of their recent struggles.
The Egyptian international has had a mixed performance this season, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 18 appearances. Despite his contributions, Salah has not consistently met the high standards expected of him. Carragher commented on Salah’s current form, suggesting that his physical capabilities may have diminished. “Mo Salah looks like his legs have gone,” he remarked, reflecting on the pivotal role Salah played in Liverpool’s success under manager Jürgen Klopp in 2018.
As Liverpool navigates its way through a challenging season, the uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future and his relationship with the club continues to dominate headlines. The forward’s critical comments highlight not only his personal frustrations but also the broader issues facing Liverpool as they strive for success in a highly competitive environment.
