Niall Culleton Claims PDC Tour Card After Stellar Q School Performance

Kilkenny carpenter Niall Culleton has officially secured his place on the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) tour after a remarkable performance at Q School in Milton Keynes, UK. On March 1, 2024, Culleton won six consecutive matches, ultimately claiming one of the two coveted tour cards available that day.

Culleton, aged 38, faced a challenging road to victory. In the decisive match, he triumphed over England’s Danny Goddard with a score of 6-5. Earlier in the tournament, he demonstrated impressive resilience by coming back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat young talent Sam Jackson.

“This is amazing,” Culleton expressed after his victory. “I remember coming close in 2018 or 2019, and since then, it has been haunting me. I went to Q School last year, but I didn’t participate in anything afterwards. I said, ‘I need to go home, reset, and start enjoying the game again.’ And now, I’m enjoying it!”

With his tour card secured, Culleton is eager to build on this achievement. “Winning the tour card is just the beginning. It’s time to push myself and see where this journey takes me,” he added.

Culleton joins an elite group of players on the PDC tour, which includes back-to-back world champion Luke Littler, Michael Van Gerwen, and Luke Humphries. Other notable players who have recently held tour cards include Keane Barry from Meath, William O’Connor from Limerick, Brendan Dolan from Fermanagh, Darryl Gurney from Derry, and Mickey Mansell from Tyrone.

Culleton is not the only player making strides at Q School. Carlow’s Steve Lennon is currently in a strong position to also secure a tour card, having topped the Q School Order of Merit after winning five of his six matches on the same day. The top five players in the Order of Merit table, to be finalized on March 3, 2024, will earn tour cards, with Stephen Rosney from Tipperary also in contention.
