Annual Regatta in Graignamanagh Cancelled Amid Water Concerns
URGENT UPDATE: The much-anticipated annual Regatta in Graignamanagh has been officially cancelled due to a water quality advisory issued by Kilkenny County Council. This announcement comes after organizers expressed their disappointment on social media, stating it was with a “heavy heart” that they made the decision.
In their statement, the organizers shared their hope for improved water quality results but confirmed that August 2025 testing did not meet safety standards. “We really had high hopes that by today the new testing results would have shown an improvement but unfortunately this was not the case,” they noted, emphasizing the commitment to public safety.
While bathing advisory notices have been lifted in nearby Inistioge and Thomastown, Graignamanagh remains under a strict advisory until further notice. Local authorities will continue monitoring water quality to ensure safe bathing across the county.
The cancellation of the Regatta, a beloved community event, will undoubtedly impact local residents and visitors alike. Many anticipated a weekend filled with festivities, showcasing the rich culture and spirit of Graignamanagh.
As the situation evolves, stay tuned for updates on water quality testing and potential future events. Kilkenny County Council assures the public that they are prioritizing safety and will communicate any changes promptly.
