Authorities Urgently Seek Leads in Jo Jo Dullard’s 30-Year Mystery
UPDATE: Today, November 9, 2023, marks a heartbreaking milestone—the 30th anniversary of the disappearance of Josephine ‘Jo Jo’ Dullard. In a desperate plea for information, An Garda Síochána is urging anyone with details about that fateful night to step forward.
On the evening of November 9, 1995, 21-year-old Jo Jo traveled from Kilkenny to Dublin, where she enjoyed time at the Bruxelles Bar on Harry Street. After missing her last bus home, she boarded a bus to Naas in County Kildare around 10 PM. Jo Jo intended to hitchhike the rest of her journey to Callan.
She successfully hitched two rides—first from Naas to Kilcullen, and then from Kilcullen to Moone. At 11:37 PM, she called her friend, Mary Cullinan, informing her that a car had stopped to offer her a lift. Tragically, Jo Jo was never seen or heard from again.
Her sister, Kathleen, reported her missing the following morning. Since then, Garda investigations have continued for three decades, and as of November 2020, her case has been reclassified as a murder review. Most recently, in 2022, authorities arrested a man and searched for Jo Jo’s remains, but he was released without charge, and no new evidence was found.
In a poignant statement, An Garda Síochána reiterated their commitment to finding answers for Jo Jo’s family: “Jo Jo’s family have now suffered from her disappearance for 30 years. We are resolute in our determination to provide answers for Jo Jo’s family and bring her murderer to justice.”
Authorities are focusing on critical details that could help in the case. They are particularly interested in anyone who may have seen Jo Jo that night or who may have been hitchhiking in the vicinity of Moone around late October or early November 1995. They urge anyone who might have given a lift to a hitchhiker during that time to come forward.
Additionally, Gardaí are seeking information about Jo Jo’s personal belongings, specifically her Sanyo Stereo cassette player (model MGP21), which she had with her on the night of her disappearance. Did anyone see this cassette player after November 9, 1995?
Authorities emphasize that all tips can be provided confidentially, urging the public to help bring closure to this tragic case.
As the community reflects on Jo Jo’s disappearance, the emotional toll on her family is immeasurable. The continued search for justice underscores the importance of collective memory and vigilance in unsolved cases.
For those with information, please contact An Garda Síochána and help bring Jo Jo’s family the answers they have been seeking for three long decades.
