Business Student Exposes Himself to Women in Dublin, Faces Charges

UPDATE: A 30-year-old business student, Rishabh Mahajan, has admitted to exposing himself to three women in a shocking series of incidents across Dublin. The court heard these brazen acts took place late at night, with multiple counts of sexual misconduct confirmed during a hearing at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The disturbing events unfolded between October 23 and November 11, 2024, with Mahajan pleading guilty to four counts of offensive conduct likely to cause fear and distress. He also confessed to a separate charge of sexual assault, raising immediate concerns about safety in the city.

During a late-night shift on October 23, a woman encountered Mahajan as he stood outside her glass-fronted office, exposing himself and performing sexual acts while making direct eye contact with her. When she attempted to confront him, he laughed and fled upon noticing her call to the authorities.

Just days later, Mahajan returned to the same location, repeating the offensive behavior. The victim expressed her disgust and fear of encountering him again while heading to work. These incidents were captured on CCTV, highlighting the blatant disregard Mahajan had for the law and public decency.

The court was informed of a further incident on October 11, where Mahajan exposed himself to a staff member outside a youth hostel. On Halloween, he approached another victim while masturbating and even touched her bottom when she attempted to alert the police. This sexual assault was also recorded on CCTV, leading to his identification and arrest in early November.

Garda Patrick Hynes described Mahajan’s actions as “quite brazen,” noting that these incidents occurred in public areas, further amplifying the distress caused to the victims. The court received victim impact statements outlining the psychological toll these events have had on the complainants.

Mahajan, an Indian national who arrived in Ireland just a month prior to the incidents to study at the UCD Smurfit Business School, currently resides in homeless accommodation. His defense counsel indicated that he had not encountered any further issues with law enforcement since these offenses and expressed regret on his client’s behalf to the victims.

Judge Martina Baxter has adjourned sentencing to May 19 and has ordered Mahajan to provide his contact details to the Probation Service. The community now waits anxiously for the outcome, as concerns grow over safety in the city and the impact of Mahajan’s actions on the victims involved.
