Construction Worker Receives 15-Year Driving Ban After Convictions
URGENT UPDATE: A construction worker in Limerick has been disqualified from driving for an astonishing 15 years following a series of road traffic convictions. Viatlie Cabac, aged 40, was caught driving while using a phone on the N7 Ballysimon Road on July 15, 2025, leading to immediate legal repercussions.
Authorities report that during the traffic stop, Mr. Cabac was unable to provide a valid driver’s license or car insurance. Despite later presenting a Moldovan license at Roxboro Garda Station, this did not mitigate the severity of his offenses. Mr. Cabac also failed to pay an initial fine for driving without a seatbelt, raising further concerns about his compliance with traffic laws.
This sentence follows a troubling history for Mr. Cabac, who has accumulated twelve previous convictions, including three for driving without insurance. He had already been disqualified from driving for a period of ten years by the circuit court in 2024.
In a defense argument, Solicitor Sarah Ryan claimed Mr. Cabac was driving due to an emergency, emphasizing his employment in the construction industry. However, Judge Patricia Harney did not find this sufficient to reduce the sentence.
The court imposed a €1,000 fine and sentenced Mr. Cabac to four months imprisonment while reinforcing the 15-year driving ban. This severe consequence highlights ongoing issues with road safety and accountability in Limerick.
As this situation develops, the impact on local traffic safety and employment within the construction sector is worth monitoring. How will this case influence future road safety policies in the region?
