Derry City Clinches 2nd Place in Premier Division; Sligo Secures Safety
UPDATE: Derry City has just secured a 1-0 victory against Cork City at Turner’s Cross, clinching 2nd place in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division. The decisive goal came from Michael Duffy in the first half, marking an impressive end to their season.
This victory comes just days after Shamrock Rovers were crowned champions, making Derry’s achievement all the more significant. The team’s strong finish solidifies their position near the top of the league, raising hopes for next season.
In another critical match, Sligo Rovers triumphed with a 2-1 win over the newly crowned champions, Shamrock Rovers. This victory not only secured a 7th place finish for Sligo but also ensured their safety in the top flight for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, Galway United managed to secure their Premier Division status as well, finishing 8th after a 1-1 draw against Waterford. This outcome means Waterford will face a relegation playoff, battling for their place in the league.
Other notable results from tonight’s matches include a 0-0 draw between Shelbourne and St. Patrick’s Athletic, while Drogheda United suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against Bohemians. As a result, Shelbourne and Bohemians finished in 3rd and 4th places, respectively.
