Donegal Town Dental Clinic Opens for Children After Killybegs Closure
UPDATE: The Donegal Town Dental Clinic is now open to treat children affected by the closure of the Killybegs Dental Clinic, which shut its doors last December due to non-compliance with updated health standards. This urgent move comes as children from surrounding areas such as Kilcar, Carrick, Glencolmcille, Bruckless, and Dunkineely lose access to essential dental services.
The Killybegs clinic ceased operations after the premises failed to meet infection-prevention requirements, leading to the retirement of its dentist in May. As of now, there are no plans to reopen the Killybegs facility, making the Donegal Town clinic the primary option for local families.
Recruitment efforts for a new dentist are currently underway, with an expected hire in early 2026. Once the position is filled, priority dental appointments will be granted to children who are now entering their first year of secondary school, followed by those on the existing waiting list from sixth class.
This development is critical for ensuring that children in the region continue to receive necessary dental care without further delay. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the services available at the Donegal Town clinic as the community adapts to this new arrangement.
Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops, including any changes in clinic operations or additional service announcements.
