Family Urges Action on 30th Anniversary of Jo Jo Dullard’s Disappearance

UPDATE: On the 30th anniversary of her disappearance, the family of Josephine “Jo Jo” Dullard is making an urgent appeal for information. Kathleen Bergin, Jo Jo’s sister, stated emphatically, “she’s out there somewhere and we need to bring her home,” as she called for anyone with relevant details to come forward.

Jo Jo Dullard vanished on November 9, 1995, after a night out in Dublin. She was just 21 years old at the time and was last seen socializing at the Bruxelles Bar near Grafton Street. After missing her last bus home to Callan, Co Kilkenny, she boarded a bus to Naas, Co Kildare at 10 PM, intending to hitchhike the rest of the journey.

In a poignant video released by An Garda Síochána, Bergin expressed the family’s heartbreak, stating, “We need Jo Jo to finish her journey home.” She encouraged individuals who may have information, no matter how small, to reflect and step forward.

The last known contact Jo Jo had was a phone call to her friend Mary Cullinan at 11:37 PM, during which she mentioned accepting a lift from a passing car. This conversation marked the final trace of Jo Jo, leading authorities to reclassify her case as a murder investigation in November 2020.

Five years ago, Gardai concluded that Jo Jo had likely been killed, intensifying efforts to solve the case. Last year, a man in his 50s was arrested but later released without charge. Investigators are now particularly focused on a Sanyo cassette player that Jo Jo had with her that night, urging anyone who may have seen it or received one to contact them.

Bergin emotionally recounted the impact of Jo Jo’s disappearance on their family, saying, “Little did she know going to Dublin that day she wouldn’t get to come back home again.” She emphasized the need for closure, stating that Jo Jo “deserves to be brought home and laid to rest beside Mam and Dad,” alluding to their parents who have passed away.

Authorities are appealing for additional information from anyone who may have hitchhiked in the Moone area or given a lift to a hitchhiker during that time. They remain resolute in their commitment to bring Jo Jo’s killer to justice, reiterating that any small piece of information could be crucial.
