Father of Family Lost in St Stephen’s Day Fire Shares Tribute
URGENT UPDATE: A father devastated by the tragic loss of his wife and two children in a St Stephen’s Day fire has expressed overwhelming gratitude for the support he has received during this unimaginable time. Tom Shearman, a Gloucestershire Police officer, lost his family in the devastating blaze that occurred on December 26, 2025, claiming the lives of his wife Fionnghuala ‘Nu’ Shearman, their seven-year-old daughter Eve, four-year-old son Ohner, and their family dog, Hutch.
In a heartfelt message shared on a GoFundMe page organized by friends and family, Tom stated he is “genuinely humbled beyond comprehension” by the kindness shown to him during his “darkest of hours.” He wrote about the profound anguish and trauma experienced from the fire that ripped apart the very essence of his family.
Tom was hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the incident but has since been discharged. He expressed immense gratitude, saying, “I have no way to thank any of you for the unbelievable out of this world generosity that you have shown to me.”
The GoFundMe campaign has exceeded £362,000 (€414,000) within just four days, aimed at providing Tom with essential support for emergency accommodation, clothing, and unforeseen expenses as he navigates this painful journey.
In his tribute, Tom emphasized the remarkable qualities of his late family members. He pledged to honor Fionnghuala’s legacy of creativity and craftsmanship, stating, “I WILL make sure my unbelievably talented, empathetic, compassionate and beautiful wife’s legacy of craft, design and making lives on.” He also vowed to continue the legacies of their children, highlighting Eve’s love for reading and writing, along with Ohner’s compassion for helping others.
As tributes pour in for the family, Tom concluded his message with heartfelt thanks to the community for their overwhelming support, declaring he will “forever be in your debt.”
Emergency services were on the scene at Brimscombe Hill, near Stroud, following the fire, which has left the community in shock.
