Galway Christmas Market SHUTTERED as Storm Bram Hits Today
UPDATE: Galway’s beloved Christmas Market is officially closed today due to the imminent threat from Storm Bram. A status orange wind warning has been issued for the entire country, affecting the safety of attendees and vendors alike.
The warning is already in effect for counties in the south-east and will extend to Galway and all other counties, except Donegal, starting at 11 AM and lasting until 7 PM. For Donegal, the orange warning will commence at 2 PM and remain active until 9 PM.
City Councillor Niall McNelis confirmed the closure during a segment on Galway Talks, urging residents to prioritize their safety amid the severe weather conditions. “I encourage everyone to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel,” McNelis stated, underscoring the potential risks posed by high winds and adverse weather.
This sudden closure disrupts the festive plans for many who were looking forward to the market’s holiday offerings. The Christmas Market has become a staple for locals and tourists alike, showcasing local crafts, festive foods, and seasonal entertainment.
With winds expected to reach dangerous speeds, the decision to close the market is a precaution aimed at ensuring public safety. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising residents to remain vigilant as the storm progresses.
As the situation develops, residents are encouraged to stay updated through local news channels and official announcements. The city will reassess the conditions to determine when it will be safe to reopen the market.
Stay safe, Galway, and share this urgent update with your friends and family to keep everyone informed.
