UPDATE: Champion Bumper runner-up Heads Up is making headlines as he gears up for the prestigious Grade Two Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham this Friday, October 27, 2023. After a strong debut in the hurdles at Listowel, where he won by two lengths, the five-year-old is ready to tackle a significant challenge in this high-stakes race.

Trainer John McConnell expressed confidence in his star horse, stating, “He’s good, all being well he’s going to Cheltenham on Friday for the Grade Two.” This race marks a notable increase in both distance and competition for Heads Up, as he moves up to two miles and five furlongs. McConnell added, “It’s a big step up from his run at Listowel, but he’s in good nick and schooling well, so we’re hopeful he can be competitive.”

The stakes are high, and the racing community is buzzing with anticipation. This race will serve as a crucial indicator of Heads Up’s potential as he eyes longer distances in the future. McConnell noted, “He’s done a lot of schooling since his last run. He’s a lot sharper now with his jumping.”

In addition to Heads Up, McConnell is also considering another prominent entry: Moon D’Orange, who may compete in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury, pending suitable ground conditions. McConnell commented, “We want soft ground and we just haven’t had it.” If the weather cooperates, Moon D’Orange could make a strong showing.

Meanwhile, stable favorite Seddon is recovering from an incident during the Grand Sefton at Aintree last weekend, where he fell early due to poor visibility from the sun. “Unfortunately, the sun was a big factor,” McConnell explained. “He had an easy fall so thankfully he’s OK, but the Chair should probably have been taken out.” Seddon is set to return for one of the veterans’ chases, potentially at Cheltenham in December.

With these developments unfolding, all eyes will be on Cheltenham this Friday as Heads Up aims to prove his mettle in a highly competitive field. Racing fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this talented horse performs against a backdrop of high expectations and significant stakes.
