JFK’s Granddaughter Tatiana Schlossberg Dies at 35 After Cancer Battle
UPDATE: Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy, has tragically passed away at the age of 35. Her death comes just weeks after she revealed her battle with acute myeloid leukaemia, a form of blood cancer, diagnosed in May 2024.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by the JFK Library Foundation on social media, stating, “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.” The family, including her mother Caroline Kennedy, husband George Moran, and children Edwin and Josephine, mourns her loss deeply.
Tatiana’s cancer diagnosis came as a shock following routine blood tests after the birth of her second child. She expressed disbelief, stating, “I did not – could not – believe that they were talking about me.” Her treatment journey involved chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, during which she received critical support from her family.
In a poignant reflection, Tatiana noted, “I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t sick. I didn’t feel sick.” Her sister, Rose, became a compatible stem cell donor, while her brother Jack sought every option to support her treatment.
“You know, she was so incredibly brave to express herself,” said Kerry Kennedy, Tatiana’s cousin, adding, “Right now we’re all holding her in our hearts, and holding Caroline in our heart.”
Tatiana had previously shared her family’s tragic history, recalling how her mother was only five days shy of her sixth birthday when her father, President JFK, was assassinated. She reflected on how her diagnosis brought “a new tragedy” to their family narrative.
Despite her health struggles, Tatiana remained vocal about political issues. In a recent op-ed for the New Yorker, she criticized her cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for his role in cutting funding for medical research while serving as health and human services secretary under President Donald J. Trump.
Tatiana’s commitment to her family was unwavering. She recounted her husband’s dedication, stating how he would travel home to put their children to bed before returning to the hospital with her meals. Faced with the reality of her prognosis, Tatiana expressed her fears about her children’s memories of her, saying, “My son might have a few memories, but he’ll probably start confusing them with pictures he sees or stories he hears.”
She poignantly acknowledged the impact of her condition on her daughter, revealing that due to infection risks after her transplant, she was unable to perform essential caregiving tasks like changing diapers or bathing her child. “I was gone for nearly half of my daughter’s initial year,” she shared, expressing concern that her youngest may not “feel or remember” her presence after her passing.
This devastating news has sent shockwaves through the community and beyond. The legacy of Tatiana Schlossberg, a dedicated mother, daughter, and advocate, will undoubtedly be felt for years to come.
The family has not yet announced funeral arrangements or how they plan to honor her memory. As fans and loved ones grieve, they are left to reflect on the bravery and spirit that Tatiana embodied throughout her life.
