Kilkenny Camogie Faces Major Setback as Katie Power Likely Out for 2026
URGENT UPDATE: Kilkenny Camogie is facing a significant setback as star player Katie Power is likely to miss the majority of the 2026 season due to ongoing injuries. The 34-year-old forward, who led Kilkenny to victory in the 2025 Leinster title, confirmed her struggles during a press event at the AIB GOAL Mile media day.
Power revealed, “I don’t have a plan, unfortunately, at the moment.” She disclosed that she suffers from early arthritis in her knees and has been dealing with a serious foot issue since early September 2025. “We’re finished playing with club around eight weeks now and it’s probably getting no better,” she added, emphasizing the severity of her situation.
The three-time All-Ireland winner is currently not participating in the team’s training sessions. “The girls are back training but I’m not with the group,” Power stated. She has received medical advice suggesting the possibility of taking the year off to recover. “If that needs to be done, it needs to be done but I won’t be ruling myself out anyway for the long term, maybe,” she explained, highlighting her passion for the game.
With a new management team in place and a young squad poised to take the field, losing Power would be a major blow as Kilkenny aims to bounce back from several disappointing seasons. As the team prepares for the challenges ahead, fans and supporters are left anxious about the future without one of their key players.
Kilkenny Camogie officials and fans are urged to stay tuned for further updates on Power’s recovery and the team’s preparations as they navigate this critical period. The impact of her absence could reshape the dynamics of the upcoming season and test the resilience of this young squad.
