Kilkenny Church Transformed into Stunning Dream Home
UPDATE: The historic Old Church at White’s Castle in Knocktopher, County Kilkenny, has been successfully transformed into a breathtaking private residence. This renovation, completed in the early 1990s, showcases a remarkable blend of history and modern living, making it a standout landmark in the region.
The church, originally dedicated to St David, has retained its unique character, including a stunning 200-year-old bronze bell still in use today. Engraved with the names of its donors and founder, this bell serves as a poignant reminder of the church’s rich heritage.
Among the key features of the residence, the living room boasts a large, signed fresco that adds an artistic touch to the home. Notably, almost all windows are fitted with protective glass, ensuring both security and thermal insulation, enhancing the comfort of this extraordinary dwelling.
The Old Church was initially established on October 25, 1828, granted by Sir Robert Langrishe as part of the lands of White’s Castle. Constructed with a loan from the Board of First Fruits, the church was built at a cost of £1,107.13.10.25 and was consecrated on November 7, 1829.
Despite facing challenges, including an accidental fire that led to its reconstruction in 1912 under architect J F Fuller, the church has remained a significant part of local history. Prior to its establishment, the adjacent Old Abbey Church of Knocktopher served as the site for Protestant worship from the Reformation until the church’s completion.
The transformation of this church into a dream home highlights not only architectural ingenuity but also a deep respect for cultural heritage. As properties like this gain attention, it raises questions about the future of historical buildings and their roles in modern society.
Stay tuned for further developments as this story continues to unfold, and share this stunning transformation with friends and family!
