Kilkenny Gardai Abandon Chase of Dangerous Driver, Arrest Made

URGENT UPDATE: Kilkenny Gardai have successfully apprehended a dangerous driver following a high-speed incident that unfolded yesterday evening in Urlingford. Authorities confirmed that the driver of a white Audi attempted to evade capture after initially stopping for a routine check.

According to a Garda spokesperson, the incident occurred on October 3, 2023, when officers from the Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit activated their Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, prompting them to stop the vehicle. “The driver initially stopped their vehicle but took off as gardai approached before driving off at great speed towards Thurles,” the spokesperson stated.

In a critical decision, officers opted to abort the chase to prevent the endangerment of other road users. “Sometimes continuing to follow a car endangering other road users is fraught with risk and so our crew stood down,” the spokesperson explained.
