Limerick Council Launches Urgent Revamp for Parks and Public Spaces

URGENT UPDATE: Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) has just announced a series of significant maintenance and enhancement works aimed at revitalizing public spaces across Limerick. These efforts are part of an ongoing commitment to create a more welcoming and vibrant urban environment for both residents and visitors.
Among the key initiatives, the painting of park benches in Arthur’s Quay Park is currently underway. This refurbishment aims to provide a “cleaner, brighter, and more polished look” to the beloved green space. Additionally, the council is reinstating repainted picnic benches near Shannon Bridge, which will now serve as attractive spots for outdoor dining and socializing with stunning riverside views. A spokesperson for LCCC emphasized that these improvements significantly enhance the use of public spaces along the quays.
The replanting of raised flowerbeds on O’Connell Street is nearing completion, contributing to a more pleasant atmosphere for pedestrians and shoppers. These floral enhancements not only beautify the streetscape but also support local biodiversity, making the city more inviting.
In a further boost to safety and aesthetics, new railings are being installed on Sarsfield Bridge, a key city landmark. This upgrade enhances both the safety and visual appeal of this busy thoroughfare. Regular washing of Bedford Row is also ongoing, ensuring a clean and safe pedestrian zone for all.
The council is also focusing on thorough cleaning of roundabouts in various locations, including Vistakon, Kilmurray, Castletroy Park, and Garryglass. This proactive approach is part of LCCC’s strategy to maintain the beauty and functionality of public spaces throughout the city.
LCCC expressed gratitude to the Roads, Parks, Cleansing, and City Centre Response teams for their dedicated efforts. The council urges the public to respect the staff and be mindful of ongoing works. “Your patience and cooperation help ensure these improvements are carried out safely and efficiently for everyone’s benefit,” the statement added.
As Limerick undergoes these enhancements, residents and visitors are encouraged to play an active role in keeping the city beautiful. The council requests that individuals help maintain cleanliness by disposing of litter responsibly, using provided bins, and reporting any illegal dumping. “Every small action makes a big difference. By working together, we can ensure that Limerick remains a clean, vibrant, and enjoyable place for everyone,” they stated.
With these ambitious improvements, residents can expect a revitalized urban environment that enhances daily life in Limerick. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the city transforms its public spaces for all to enjoy.
