Limerick School Celebrates 90 Years of Impact on Education
UPDATE: Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ is set to celebrate a remarkable 90 years of educational excellence in the heart of Limerick this coming November 8. The school will honor its rich history with a special ceremony starting at 10:30 AM, featuring a Mass celebrated by Bishop Brendan Leahy and a reception in the school’s D’Houet Hall.
Deputy Principal Marinella Ní Reachtaire describes this anniversary as “a very auspicious occasion,” emphasizing the school’s long-standing commitment to the education of girls in Limerick and beyond. “We’ve had a huge impact on the face of Limerick,” she stated, highlighting the school’s significance in shaping the community.
The Mass will pay tribute to the traditions upheld by generations of FCJ sisters and teachers. Following the ceremony, speeches will be delivered by Principal Úna Uí Ghríofa and members of the Board of Management, including alumni from as far back as the 1961 Leaving Cert class. “It’s a privilege to be here as principal to celebrate this occasion,” said Uí Ghríofa, underlining the school’s legacy.
To commemorate this milestone, a special pin featuring the FCJ emblem and the phrase “Dia, Muire agus Éire” (God, Mary, and Ireland) will be distributed to every student next week. Each pin will come in a bespoke bag along with a prayer and bookmark. Additionally, students will participate in a flash mob at Crescent Shopping Centre next week, further engaging the community in the celebration.
This pivotal anniversary not only marks the school’s longevity but also its continuous influence in the educational landscape of Limerick. As the school prepares for this monumental event, the excitement in the community is palpable, with many eager to return and reflect on their shared experiences.
Stay tuned for more updates as the celebration approaches, and witness how Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ honors its past while looking forward to a bright future.
