Man Arrested After €490K Cocaine Seizure in Limerick Operation
UPDATE: A man in his 20s has been arrested following a major drug bust in Co. Limerick, where gardaí seized over €490,000 in suspected cocaine. This operation took place late last night in the village of Hospital, marking a significant step in ongoing anti-drug investigations.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect was apprehended after gardaí stopped a van for a routine check. The vehicle was subsequently taken to a local garda station for a thorough search under the Misuse of Drugs Act. During this search, officers discovered a concealed stash of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €493,920, as well as €3,000 in cash and several electronic devices.
The suspect is currently being held under the provisions of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, while a follow-up search at a residence in Castletroy led to the seizure of an additional €2,075 and a small quantity of cannabis.
The seized substances will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. Investigations are ongoing, and gardaí are working diligently to uncover further details related to this operation.
