Man Arrested After Ryanair Flight Diverts to Cork
A 35-year-old man from Dublin faces legal proceedings after being arrested for disruptive behavior on a Ryanair flight. The incident occurred on March 11, 2024, when the aircraft, which had departed from Faro, Portugal, was forced to divert to Cork Airport. The flight was bound for Dublin and took off at 10:15 a.m. local time.
The situation escalated during the flight as the man reportedly became unruly, prompting the captain to request permission to land at Cork. The aircraft, carrying numerous holidaymakers, successfully landed at approximately 13:00. Upon arrival, Gardaí were waiting to apprehend the man for being intoxicated and causing a disturbance.
Once the individual was removed from the flight, the crew resumed their journey to Dublin Airport. The aircraft arrived in Dublin about 30 minutes later, and all remaining passengers disembarked safely.
According to a statement from Gardaí, the man was arrested under the Air Navigation and Transport Act 2022. He is currently being held at a Garda station in Cork and is scheduled to appear in court on the morning of March 12, 2024.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding passenger behavior on flights, particularly in the wake of increased travel following pandemic restrictions. Airlines and authorities are urged to address such issues to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
