Man Attempts to Board Flight with Deceased Wife in Wheelchair
A man attempted to board a flight at Tenerife South Airport in Spain with his deceased wife situated in a wheelchair. This shocking incident, confirmed by airport authorities, took place several months ago and has since raised significant concerns regarding airport security protocols.
The situation unfolded when the man, reportedly in his 80s, passed through security with his wife, who was unresponsive. According to a witness statement given to the Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos, a security guard approached the couple after noticing the woman’s condition. When the guard took her hand, it became evident that she was not breathing and had an unusually low body temperature.
“The worker immediately notified her supervisor,” the source noted. As a result, emergency protocols were swiftly activated, prompting a rapid response from security agents, Civil Guard officers, and forensic personnel who arrived on the scene to assess the situation.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the woman had been deceased for several hours prior to the couple’s attempt to board the flight. The husband, whose identity has not been disclosed, was subsequently arrested. He allegedly claimed that his wife had died at the airport, although airport employees reported that he suggested the facility may have been responsible for her death.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death remain ongoing. Authorities are examining the husband’s statements and the events leading up to this distressing situation. As of now, it is unclear whether any charges will be filed against the airport authorities or the man himself.
The incident highlights critical issues regarding airport security and the protocols in place for handling medical emergencies. While the investigation progresses, it serves as a stark reminder of the complexities faced by staff in emergency situations, especially within the high-pressure environment of an airport.
