OPW Announces €10M Catering Tender for Ireland’s EU Presidency Events
UPDATE: The Office of Public Works (OPW) has just announced a staggering €10 million budget for event catering and hospitality services during Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026. This urgent tender is set to cover an extensive range of high-profile events, including State dinners and government meetings at key venues such as Dublin Castle and Áras an Uachtaráin.
This significant investment is part of a robust plan to host between 130 and 160 meetings, events, and conferences from July to December 2026. The OPW is seeking to establish a multi-party Framework Agreement for catering services across several prestigious locations, including the North Range of the Royal Hospital Kilmainham and the Botanic Gardens.
The tender, which must be submitted by 23 January 2024, outlines that the chosen suppliers will be responsible for everything from menu design to the delivery and service of food and beverages. High-quality, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients will be prioritized for these events to showcase Ireland’s culinary heritage.
Officials emphasize the importance of these gatherings, stating that they will serve as a platform for fostering international relations and highlighting Ireland’s role within the EU. The OPW anticipates appointing between three and six suppliers to ensure a competitive and high-quality offering for these prestigious events.
As Ireland gears up for its EU presidency, the urgency of this tender highlights the scale and significance of the upcoming events. Companies interested in bidding must demonstrate a minimum annual turnover of €500,000 over the past three years, underscoring the seriousness of the OPW’s commitment to excellence.
With the Framework Agreement set to commence in early 2026 for an initial term of one year, there is a clear focus on creating memorable and impactful experiences that will resonate both domestically and internationally.
The countdown to Ireland’s leadership on the EU stage is on, and the OPW’s proactive measures to secure catering services are a vital step in ensuring the success of this monumental period. Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops.
