Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for the counties of Clare, Kerry, Galway, and Mayo due to expected persistent rain. This warning will be effective from 20:00 on March 15, 2024, until 20:00 on March 16, 2024. The forecast indicates that rainfall may become heavy, leading to potential localized flooding, challenging travel conditions, and reduced visibility in the affected areas.

The morning will start mostly dry, featuring crisp sunshine alongside scattered showers, particularly along the Atlantic coast. According to Met Éireann, the day will gradually shift to overcast conditions, with patchy rain and drizzle expected to develop in the western regions during the afternoon. While many areas in the east and southeast will remain dry until after dark, afternoon temperatures are projected to reach between 9°C and 13°C.

Forecast and Impacts

As the evening approaches, wet and blustery conditions will take hold, with rain spreading eastward and increasing the likelihood of localized flooding across western counties. The rain is anticipated to become more scattered later at night, accompanied by misty conditions in certain areas. Temperatures will drop to between 7°C and 11°C, accompanied by fresh to strong winds.

The forecast for March 16 indicates a continuation of dull and blustery weather, particularly across the western half of the country, where spells of rain are expected to be heaviest. Despite these conditions, temperatures will remain mild, ranging from 13°C to 16°C. The ongoing wet weather will persist into Monday night, especially affecting southern and eastern counties, which may experience further localized flooding. Nighttime temperatures will remain mild, between 11°C and 13°C, with fresh and gusty winds.

Expert Insights

Met Éireann meteorologist Siobhán Ryan stated, “It’s a very unsettled outlook, with frequent spells of wet and blustery weather, but a very mild one overall too, and frost-free.” This forecast suggests that residents should prepare for challenging outdoor conditions in the coming days.

As the situation evolves, residents in the affected counties are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and consider travel plans carefully. The persistent rain and associated risks underline the importance of adhering to local safety guidelines in response to weather warnings.
