Scottie Scheffler Stuns with Chip-In to Win BMW Championship

UPDATE: In a thrilling finish at the BMW Championship in Baltimore, Scottie Scheffler pulled off a stunning comeback, overtaking Bob MacIntyre with a spectacular chip-in on the 17th hole. This victory marks Scheffler’s fifth win on the PGA Tour this season, solidifying his dominance as he now boasts an incredible 12 wins since March 2024, including three majors and an Olympic gold medal.
Scheffler began the day four shots behind MacIntyre but showcased his resilience on the course. Despite a few missed putts—most notably a surprising three-putt from 17 feet at the 14th hole—he delivered when it mattered most. With the pressure mounting and the lead dwindling to one stroke, Scheffler executed a remarkable chip from the rough, landing the ball perfectly on the slope and watching it roll into the cup.
His final score of 15-under-par came after a final round of 67, finishing two strokes ahead of MacIntyre, who shot 73. Maverick McNealy secured third place with an 11-under-par total.
The win not only adds to Scheffler’s impressive season but also places him in elite company: he is the first player since Tiger Woods (2006-07) to win five or more tournaments in back-to-back seasons.
Meanwhile, fellow competitor Shane Lowry made headlines by comfortably qualifying for the PGA Tour’s season-ending Tour Championship for only the second time in his career. His final round of 67 featured four birdies and showcased a significant improvement with the putter, helping him rise to 24th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Rory McIlroy, who entered the FedEx Cup playoffs in second place, will also advance to the Tour Championship despite a challenging week. After struggling with back-to-back double bogeys early in his round, he rallied with five birdies for a level-par round of 70, finishing three under for the tournament.
Across the pond, a thrilling finish unfolded at the DP World Tour as Marco Penge edged Rasmus Højgaard to claim victory at the Danish Golf Championship. Penge’s final round of 67 included birdies on his last two holes, giving him a total of 16 under for the tournament. Højgaard, who led by four shots at one point, suffered a disappointing back nine but managed to secure an eagle on the par 5 18th.
Penge’s win elevates him to 14th in the Ryder Cup rankings, while Højgaard will have another chance to qualify automatically at The Belfry.
In a remarkable feat in Irish amateur golf, Stuart Grehan claimed the AIG Irish Amateur Close Championship, completing the Irish Amateur Open-Irish Close double, a prestigious achievement shared with legends like Pádraig Harrington.
With the Tour Championship fast approaching, all eyes are now on the final qualifying events as players aim to solidify their spots and make a mark on the Ryder Cup. The excitement continues as the golf world watches for updates on these exhilarating competitions.
