UPDATE: Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy, has tragically passed away at the age of 35, just weeks after revealing her terminal cancer diagnosis. The JFK Library Foundation confirmed her death today, stating, “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.”

Schlossberg’s passing comes just days after she shared her battle with acute myeloid leukaemia, a rare blood cancer, in an emotional essay published in the New Yorker on November 22, 2023, coinciding with the 62nd anniversary of her grandfather’s assassination. She expressed disbelief at her diagnosis, recounting how she felt perfectly healthy, having swum a mile in the pool just the day before her diagnosis while nine months pregnant.

In her poignant essay, she explained that the diagnosis occurred shortly after the birth of her daughter when doctors noticed an elevated white blood cell count. “Everyone thought it was something to do with the pregnancy or the delivery. After a few hours, my doctors thought it was leukaemia,” Schlossberg detailed.

Survived by her husband, George Moran, their three-year-old son, and one-year-old daughter, Schlossberg leaves behind a legacy of advocacy for environmental issues. She critiqued health policies in her essay, particularly targeting her cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for his comments on health and funding cuts related to mRNA vaccines, which she argued could combat certain cancers.

Schlossberg’s career as an environmental journalist included impactful articles in the Washington Post, where she investigated the effects of climate change on agriculture. Her book, Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don’t Know You Have, further highlighted her commitment to raising awareness about climate issues.

The family statement, signed by her parents, Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, and her siblings, Jack and Rose Schlossberg, who is married to Rory McAuliffe, reflects the profound loss felt by her loved ones.

As the news continues to unfold, many are mourning the loss of a vibrant advocate and cherished family member. The impact of her work and her journey through illness resonates deeply, prompting conversations about health, family, and environmental stewardship.
