Three Arrested During National Lockdown Protest in Limerick

The gathering began at Arthur’s Quay Park around noon, with demonstrators marching on foot toward the Shannonbridge roundabout. Witnesses reported a crowd of a few dozen protesters, including children, expressing their opposition to lockdown measures.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that officers were present to manage the public gathering. In enforcing public order, two men—aged in their 30s and 60s—along with a woman in her 30s, were arrested for failing to comply with police directions under the Public Order Act. All three were subsequently taken to a local garda station.

Footage circulating on social media shows police escorting the arrested individuals to the Henry Street garda station. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the protest, and the attendees dispersed shortly after the arrests.

Following their detainment, all three individuals were released without charge. The Garda spokesperson noted that files will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
