Tragic Road Collision Claims Life of Waterford Father on Christmas
UPDATE: A devastating road accident has claimed the life of Alan Walsh, a father of two, on Christmas Day 2025. The tragic incident occurred at around 11:00 AM at the junction of Manor Hill and Hennessy’s Road in Waterford City, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Walsh, who was in his 40s, was riding an e-scooter when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a man in his 80s. The driver sustained injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening and was transported to University Hospital Waterford for treatment. Fortunately, no other injuries were reported in the collision, according to Garda officials.
The untimely death of Alan Walsh has left a profound impact on his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Sean and Ava, and his heartbroken parents, Esther and Tommy. Siblings Thomas, Mark, Lorraine, Karen, and Sarah also grieve for him, alongside numerous relatives and friends who are mourning the loss of a beloved figure.
In response to this heartbreaking event, heartfelt tributes have flooded social media and RIP.ie. One mourner expressed, “To Esther and all of Alan’s family, shocked and saddened to hear this news of Alan’s tragic passing. May he rest in peace.” Another shared, “There are no words…deepest sympathy to cousin Thomas, Esther, Alan’s siblings and extended family. Such a tragedy.”
Alan’s funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Thompson’s Funeral Home on Barrack St, Waterford. A vigil with prayers and Rosary will precede the ceremony, which will begin at 2:30 PM at Sacred Heart Church, followed by burial at St. Otteran’s Cemetery on Cork Road.
The community of Waterford is grappling with the loss of a “legend,” as described by one mourner. “A dark cloud over Waterford today with the loss of one of my oldest friends of 26 years. One of the kindest, funniest persons I ever had the privilege of meeting,” they wrote, emphasizing the emotional toll this incident has taken.
As the investigation into the collision continues, authorities urge the public to drive cautiously, especially during the festive season. The tragic loss of Alan Walsh serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety during busy holiday periods.
