Two Arrested as Garda Seize €750,000 in Drugs and Cash

UPDATE: Two men are set to appear in court following a major drug bust in Douglas, Cork, where Gardaí seized over €750,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis. The arrests were made during a series of raids on December 30, 2023, highlighting urgent concerns over drug trafficking in the area.

Authorities confirmed that approximately €700,000 in suspected cocaine and €60,000 in cannabis were discovered. In addition to the drugs, Gardaí seized €40,000 in cash, indicating the scale of the operation. The two men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested and are being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

As part of the investigation, follow-up searches were conducted by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) in the Dublin 14 area on New Year’s Eve, resulting in the seizure of an additional 0.5 kg of suspected cannabis and €4,000 in cash.

The seized drugs are now undergoing analysis by Forensic Science Ireland, with the authorities stressing that investigations are ongoing. Both of the arrested men have been charged and are expected to face a special sitting of Cork District Court at approximately 10:30 AM on January 2, 2024.
