Urgent: 74-Year-Old Pauline Sweeney Dies in Louth Collision
URGENT UPDATE: A tragic road traffic collision in Co Louth has claimed the life of 74-year-old Pauline Sweeney this morning. The accident, involving two cars and a lorry, occurred at Bridge Street in Ardee at approximately 11:25 AM, just hours before the town was set to commemorate the funeral of Dylan Commmins, one of the victims from last weekend’s deadly crash outside Dundalk.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, where Mrs. Sweeney, the driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles, was transported by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Unfortunately, she was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days, as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
Locals are mourning the loss of Mrs. Sweeney, who is being remembered as “an absolute lady with the biggest smile.” Tributes have poured in highlighting her warm personality and love for community activities, such as attending Bingo nights in nearby Huntstown and participating in her Tuesday Bridge club. One mourner expressed their sorrow on RIP.ie, stating, “We will miss aunt Pauline, she was a gentle, lovable funny person. Thank you for the memories, we will never forget you.”
Mrs. Sweeney leaves behind her husband James, daughters Sandra and Karen, son James, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Breda, Catherine, Teresa, Joan, Geraldine, and brother Paddy. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
Gardaí have confirmed that no other injuries were reported as a result of the collision. They are urging any witnesses to come forward. Road users who may have dash-cam footage from the area between 11:00 AM and 11:25 AM are encouraged to share this information with investigating officers. Anyone with details is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station at 041 987 4200 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.
This incident highlights the ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the area, and community members are left grappling with the sudden loss of a beloved figure. Please stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
