URGENT UPDATE: Authorities are making a renewed appeal for information today as they mark the 32nd anniversary of the mysterious disappearance of Imelda Keenan, who vanished from Waterford on January 3, 1994. Imelda, then just 22 years old, has not been seen since she was last spotted at the corner of the Tower Hotel and Lombard Street.

Investigating Garda officials are desperate to break the “silence” surrounding Imelda’s case. They have circulated a computer-generated image depicting how Imelda might look if she is still alive today. This fresh appeal aims to reignite interest and prompt anyone with potential leads to come forward.

Imelda, originally from Mountmellick, Co Laois, was living in Waterford while pursuing her studies. She left her apartment at 1:30 PM on that fateful day, heading towards the city center. Her brother, Edward Keenan, reported her missing the following day after she failed to return home.

Despite extensive investigations, including over 80 statements taken from witnesses, there have been no further sightings or leads in Imelda’s case. Superintendent Gavin Hegarty emphasized the need for anyone with information to contact Waterford Garda Station at (051) 305 300 or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.

“Imelda was known for her quiet demeanor, her love of music, and her strong family ties,” said Superintendent Hegarty. “Despite extensive investigations spanning 32 years, the silence surrounding her fate remains unbroken.”

Imelda’s family has been vocal in their desire for her case to be upgraded to a murder investigation, a request that has been denied by authorities. They have raised concerns about several oddities surrounding her disappearance, including unopened Christmas presents found in her apartment over a week after Christmas.

Two years ago, a public meeting held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of her disappearance revealed that family visits to Imelda’s apartment during Christmas 1993 went unanswered, heightening suspicions about her fate.

As the investigation continues, authorities urge the public to share any information they might have, no matter how minor it may seem. This renewed appeal could be crucial in uncovering new leads in a case that has haunted the community for over three decades.

Imelda Keenan’s case remains a poignant reminder of the unresolved tragedies that impact families and communities. Readers are encouraged to circulate this appeal widely, as it may bring forth the key information needed to finally solve this enduring mystery.
