Urgent Fire Forces Evacuations in Cork City Centre, Traffic Affected
UPDATE: A fire erupted in Cork city centre just after 7 PM today, prompting the urgent evacuation of numerous retail stores and popular restaurants. The blaze broke out in a commercial property near Oliver Plunkett Street, one of Cork’s busiest areas for shopping and dining.
Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke billowing from a building behind a restaurant, leading bystanders to immediately raise the alarm. Emergency services, including multiple units from the Cork City Fire Brigade, quickly responded to the scene and worked to control the flames.
The fire was successfully brought under control by approximately 8 PM, but not before precautionary evacuations were enforced throughout the vicinity. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries related to this incident.
As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire, they have announced that the affected buildings will be inspected tomorrow to assess the damage. Motorists are advised to avoid the area due to ongoing traffic congestion caused by the emergency response efforts.
This incident highlights the urgent need for safety measures in crowded commercial districts. Local businesses are now facing not only the immediate impact of the fire but also potential disruptions in the coming days as the situation develops.
Stay tuned for further updates as investigations proceed and more information becomes available.
