Urgent Garda Warning as Drones Disrupt Search for Missing Boy

URGENT UPDATE: Authorities have issued a critical warning as drones have been spotted flying over the search site for a missing seven-year-old boy in Donabate, Co Dublin. Despite a strict airspace restriction that has been in place since September 2, 2023, a drone was detected over the area yesterday, and a second violation occurred today, prompting serious concerns from An Garda Síochána.

The search operation, which began on September 1, follows the boy’s disappearance, first reported to authorities by Tusla on August 29. Investigators have declared the child is “missing, presumed dead,” and are conducting a meticulous search of the open ground in Donabate, where no evidence of his current whereabouts has been found.

In a statement, Gardaí urged the public and media to refrain from using any images captured by drones, emphasizing that these were obtained illegally. “An Garda Síochána again appeals to the media to provide Gardaí with the space and time to carry out this search operation sensitively and sympathetically for everybody involved,” the statement read. They also warned that any images taken could potentially hinder the ongoing investigation.

The operator of the drone detected yesterday claimed to be working for a media outlet, and this breach is under investigation by both the Irish Aviation Authority and An Garda Síochána. Authorities continue to stress the importance of maintaining the integrity of the search area, as they work tirelessly to uncover the truth behind the boy’s disappearance.

Authorities are calling for anyone with information to come forward, directing tips to Swords Garda Station at 01 666 4700, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any local Garda station. The community remains on edge as the search continues, and every lead is crucial in this urgent investigation.

As this situation develops, the focus remains on respecting the privacy of the family and allowing Gardaí to conduct their work without interference. More updates will follow as new information becomes available.
